Heal your home

Heal your home
By The GaneshaSpeaks Team

Tired of innumerable problems, which keep cropping up every now and then, to disrupt the routine and happiness in your home. Do you feel that there is a problem with your routine, your family or your home? Maybe, not!

Even when you feel that a problem may be arising from within, the source of problem may actually be outside your home and family. This is especially true, if you can see the recurrent problems, but really fail to pin-point a definite cause.

An answer that Vaastu has to such an issue is the possibility of a weak or absent Aura (Vaastu Mandala) around and in your home. This happens to many people, because they do not know about this vital fact, and are unaware as to how to protect their homes, offices and premises from evil and negative forces.

Remember that our environment has all sorts of energies, including the negative ones. Fear, anger, depression, negative people, heated arguments and evil eye on your home may easily damage the peace and happiness of your home. Our society is driven by competition, rivalry, animosity, jealousy, and prejudices. Negativity in any form can also damage the Aura of your Vaastu. It is also capable of badly harming the human energy field.

Vaastu Dosha may also occur due to inconsistent gravity, wrong wind flows, inconsistent temperature, inconsistent magnetic field, radiations of magnetic poles, geomagnetic lines, geopathic stress, environmental stress, electromagnetic radiations and Shalya Dosha.

To summarise, let's have a look at the three types of Vaastu Dosha, which may harm your peace and may also damage the Aura of your Vaastu - Manmade Vaastu Dosha, Natural Vaastu Dosha and Ghosts & Evil Spirits.

Following are some tips to protect your homes from evil spirits. It will also help you find peace and happiness at home. All these methods are meant to protect the individuals / home and business places from evil spirits, evil eyes, black magic, psychic attacks or any other type of negative forces.

Before following and applying these tips, you also need to understand the concept of Energy Field of your Homes. It is an cosmo-magnetic energy field around your home which is not visible to most people, but it can be instinctively sensed or experienced by experts.

1.    Guggal Dhoop:
You should offer Guggal Dhoop to each and every part of your home. The entire team of Vaastu Purusha, consisting of Dwar Pal (Protector of Doors), Kshetra Pal (Protector of Regions), Dik Pal (Protector of Directions), regains energy by this Dhoop, says Ganesha.

Key Benefits: It removes environmental stress.

2.    Spray Salty Water:
Ganesha suggests that you should spray salty water in each and every area of your home, on a regular basis. The salt absorbs all negative vibrations from air. This remedy can be performed twice a week.

However, you must wash your hands after using this Salty Spray.

Key Benefits: It performs a thorough cleansing process, and purifies your home environment.

3.    Worship Lord Rudra:
According to me, the best and the most powerful technique of defense is mentioned in Atharva Veda, Hymn 27, Book II.

God Rudra is called "the Lord of Healing" and “Protector”; In Atharva Veda, Hymn 90, Book VI., he is asked to cure evil and poisonous forces and in Hymn 57, Book VI., to cure a wound (physical, emotional and psychic).

Hence, worshiping Lord Rudra, the ultimate benefactor, can surely help you get protection against all evil forces.

Key Benefits: It helps open Karmic Doors and removes Karmic Obstacles.

4.    Healing with Mantras:
A mantra is a tremendous force of positive energy. According to the science of Mantra, the armors (kavach) of different deities are...Lakshmi Kavach, Durga kavach, Shiva Kavach, Ram Kavach, Hanumat kavach etc....which should be recited by each and every family member of a family at the designated Pooja Room in the home.

Key Benefits: It empowers and regenerates powerful and positive forces.

5.    Healing through Visualization: Generally, the following techniques should be visualized between your eye brows (Third Eye Chakra).
•    Brahman Sthan (Center Point) and North – East areas of your homes are considered as the energy generators. Sit quietly in a comfortable position, allowing your breathing to settle into a deep, slow rhythm.
•    Imagine your home's outer surface is surrounded by a blue circle.
•    Think about your Guru, Spiritual Angels or God.
•    Let yourself visualize each and every area of your home.
•    Imagine your family members sitting, standing or perhaps performing their tasks.
•    The words you speak or visualize will spread in the environment of your home. Hence, Ganesha suggests that you always speak positives words and think positive thoughts when you are at home.

You can use following affirmations while visualizing the protection technique -
  • My home is divinely safe and we feel protected.
  • We are always guided, guarded, and protected by positive, sage and benign forces.
  • My home is divinely protected against evil forces.
  • My family members are blessed and highly favored by our God.
  • I am divinely protected, guided, and strengthened.
Nowadays, implementations of Vaastu principles are not so easy, due to the limitations of ready-made constructions of homes and offices. It is very complicated to adjust number of flats / offices in one complex, location of lifts, its common walls for adjacent flats, and angular distance of relevant main doors. But, if one follows meticulously the principles of Vaastu while selecting the  plot/ house and construction of building, then satisfactory results can be obtained in majority of cases. However, if that's not possible, follow the aforementioned remedies to get good results.

Yoga Benefits

Awesome Yoga Benefits

Yoga is often recommended to us by colleagues, friends and family members who are impressed by its apparent benefits.

However, many of us still harbor doubts about the actual utility of investing time and effort in yoga. Since yoga needs regular practice, it is wise to understand its advantages fully before deciding whether it is useful or not w.r.t. to your lifestyle and the problems bothering you. Before we delve into the benefits of yoga, please understand that yoga works on the essence of helping to regain balance across your bodily systems.

Yoga is not meant to target a specific problem though there are yoga postures and breathing methods recommended for resolving typical, health issues. Yoga preaches attaining a state of balance between the various senses and our physical presence to ensure that we can cure our ailments, prevent future illnesses and improve our overall quality of existence. Some of the most awesome advantages of yoga have been listed below for your evaluation:

Yoga for Neutralizing Stress

Stress has surfaced as the biggest contemporary health problem across the world. Today, there are parents dealing with kids as young as 12-years old struggling with stress. Please understand that when we say stress, it doesn’t represent feeling tensed only. It is a common term used to denote various kinds of psychological problems including anxiety, depression and feeling emotionally unattached. Yoga exercises are conducted in such a manner that the body’s relaxation centers are activated. This consists of various receptors located in the brain and across our body. The breathing techniques advocated in yoga are aimed at helping the body relax, holistically. Yoga also helps to harmonize the overactive, stress responses of the body. For instance, some yoga methods are aimed at controlling the amount of cortisol hormone released. This is the main, stress hormone that is responsible for inducing symptoms of anxiety. People practicing yoga for some time refer to their state of mind as having achieved a certain degree of ‘Inner Peace’. This doesn’t refer to something philosophical or spiritual. It just refers to the fact that their body and mind doesn’t react as adversely when they face stressful situations.

Yoga for Pain Relief

Yoga is able to relieve pain of the most extreme kind. This is achieved via yoga’s breathing and stretching techniques that help to regulate the flow of various fluids in the body. This includes blood and lymph that are primarily responsible for transporting essential nutrients and removing toxins. Once the circulatory system gets a boost, the body is able to manage pain in a better way. This means that the intensity of the pain is felt lesser and the inflammation is also reduced. Better circulation means that the body’s ability to self-heal gets a boost.

Yoga for Greater Flexibility & Strength

People suffering from various types of musculoskeletal problems of the joints, bones or muscles are recommended yoga. This is because yoga helps to strengthen our musculature and ligaments. With greater flexibility, we are able to move, grasp, push, pull and lift things with greater ease. This also ensures a better range of motion. This means that the tendons and muscles in the body are better stretched which helps to avoid injuries. Yoga is one of the most comprehensive exercises since it works all the muscles of the body. Some of the most famous sportspersons endorse yoga for achieving a better physique, including a supple, stronger body.

Yoga for Better Concentration

A calmer mind is able to concentrate better. This means enhanced memory. With meditation methods used in yoga, a faster reaction time and the ability to concentrate for longer hours can be achieved. This means better performance at work and the ability to plan daily activities with greater dexterity and efficiency.

Yoga for Increased Cardiovascular Conditioning

Cardiovascular problems have increasingly started affecting people who are barely in their mid-30s. Our sedentary lifestyles combined with bad eating habits ensure that our heart is more prone to developing fatal conditions like a stroke. Yoga is among the rare exercises that can drastically improve the overall cardio conditioning. By harmonizing the breathing pattern, yoga helps to regulate the heart-rate and raise our overall physical endurance. The heart becomes less vulnerable when pushed into demanding, physical and mental situations. More oxygenated blood and a greater range of motion help to keep the body free from toxins, including hormonal debris, that affect our endocrine health.

Yoga for Better Weight Management & Looking Younger

Please note that the stricter principles of yoga emphasize upon eating a certain type of food. However, many people who have benefited from yoga opine that they don’t follow the dietary recommendations as such. Despite this, they have reaped many benefits by practicing yoga. One such, common benefit of yoga is weight management. Since yoga works the entire body and makes the circulation of fluids more robust, it helps to raise the overall metabolic rate. Thus, more calories are burned, per hour. By working out the lean muscle mass, yoga makes it possible to burn fat, lose weight and look younger. The sense of calmness and stimulation of various bodily organs helps to fight-off the aging-causing free radicals that attack our skin on a daily basis.

Yoga for Better Sexual Health

Many yoga poses are intended at increasing the rate at which oxygenated blood is supplied across sexual organs. Better hormonal health achieved via yoga means that chances of sexual dysfunctions due to hormonal imbalances are averted. Increased cardiovascular endurance means an enhanced ability to perform in the bedroom. Yoga has been found to be potent enough to cure infertility in men and women!

Yoga for Better Relationship Skills

Since yoga helps to achieve a better physical and mental state of existence, everyday apprehensions are eradicated. People who are less worried and not bothered by frequent illnesses and naturally feel better. This helps to overcome issues like lack of self confidence or lack of compassion that are common, relationship hurdles. People who regularly practice yoga have a better ability to comprehend situations. This includes the usual issues that surface in human relationships. A more focused mind is undoubtedly able to address such problems in a more capable manner.

Bhagavad Gita now in Polish

Bhagavad Gita now in Polish language
By Surender Bhutani | IANS

From Warsaw(IANS) Even as Hindus fight a proposed ban on the Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita, in Catholic-dominated Poland the sacred scipture has for the first time been translated into the Polish language from its original Sanskrit text.
The translation has been done by a Polish lady, who has done her PhD in Sanskrit. Though there is a translation of the Gita in Polish, it was translated from English in the beginning of the 20th century.
The present translation has been done by Anna Racinska, who has spent almost a decade in Varanasi to master the nuances of Sanskrit. A late bloomer, Racinska is in her 60s and completed her doctorate from the Oriental Institute of Warsaw University two years ago.
Racinska, a mother of four grown-up children, took interest in Sanskrit on the prompting of her husband. Today in their home, all the children and parents speak Sanskrit fluently, and they converse normally in Sanskrit. It may seem odd to outsiders, but it is normal routine in their home.
These days the youngest sibling has adopted an Indian name, Yoganand, and he lives in Varanasi. He and his mother were learning Sanskrit together for many years. Another son, Phillip, is doing his doctorate in Sanskrit and has visited India more than 12 times. These children collect their own money to go to India and they give private lessons in Hindi and Sanskrit in Warsaw. Such is their commitment and passion for Sanskrit.
"Her dedication and her labour of love have done wonders. It is a great achievement for Anna Racinska that she remained unknown for many years, and then all of a sudden she has obliged us in Poland with a great translation of a great book," said Janusz Krzyzowski, a leading Indologist and president of the Indo-Polish Cultural Committee.
"We really feel proud of Racinska's monumental work. No doubt her selflessness is visible in the way she has fulfilled her long-cherished wish at this stage of her life. But she deserves our praise and we feel proud of her achievement. We sincerely hope she will produce some more outstanding research books for the coming generations," said Monika Kapila Mohta, Indian ambassador to Poland.
The Bhagavad Gita, often called the "perennial philosophy", is already available in over 50 languages.

Temple in Cambodia

Temple-spotting in Cambodia
Wait, don't go back after visiting Angkor Wat. LAKSHMI SHARATH recommends five other breathtaking temples to see in Siem Reap

  1. Thought Angkor Wat was synonymous with Siem Reap? Think again. Once you are done with the sunrise and sunset and the tour of Angkor Wat, do not head back to the next destination in Cambodia. Buy yourself a three-day Angkor pass and visit other marvelous temples and you will find a slice of ancient civilization waiting for you.
  2. The gates of the fortified town Angkor Thom opens into a different world and Bayon would probably be your first stop. Like the faces that greet you at the gate, Bayon is carved with them as the towers give the impression of a mountain with small peaks. Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, this was the state temple of the ancient rulers. You will need at least a couple of hours to see this enormous temple complex. Spare some time to wander around the town of Angkor Thom. This is my favorite temple in Siem Reap.less
  3. You would probably remember this temple for the Angelina Jolie film Tomb Raider. As I walked around Ta Prohm, it was amidst a restoration process assisted by the Indian government. The trees, their long serpentine roots and sturdy trunks, beckon you here. The eyes follow them as they mysteriously curl around a boulder and add an element of wildness to a sculpture. It was believed to have been a temple monastery. Ta Prohm leaves you breathless as you watch the elements of nature and art create wild magic in front of you.less
  4. Preah Khan is another masterpiece that literally opens into a different world as you enter the portals of the temple. It was believed to have been a Buddhist university as well. The trees add a different dimension to the sculptures as you see them growing on the walls of the temple, almost holding onto them.
  5. Banteay Srei is probably the smallest of the temples here and it is also one of the furthest from the Angkor complex. Carved in sandstone, this temple’s name I am told literally means Citadel of Women in reference to its beauty. The journey will take you about an hour, but it is worth spending every minute here.
  6. The guides and the tuk tuk guys will highly recommend Pre Rup for the sunset and I found it rather quiet compared to the other sunset points This state temple is built a few kilometers away from Angkor town and stands on the way to Banteay Srei. The towers, built in laterite, sandstone and brick, glow in the evening sun as we spend a few quiet moments before returning to Siem Reap.
  7. Five is a rather small number when it comes to the temples of Angkor and the monuments around Siem Reap. If you have more time, do check out the Roluos Group of temples – Bakong is beautiful ; or visit Kbal Spein or Kulen Mountains to see the River of thousand Shiva lingas – small stone carvings on the bed of the Siem Reap river.

The world of wine

In recent years, the world of wine and its champions have made impressive strides to overcome that harsh, nagging stereotype that wine lovers are snobby and elitist.

We're lucky, really, to be living in such an age of drink super-geekdom that has given rise to a wealth of unique venues, companies, and brands. These are genuine passion projects run by folks more than eager to share their enthusiasm and knowledge, lively wine tastings where people won't give you a glaring side-eye if you don't spit after every taste, and wine bars that feel as relaxed and casual as your favorite local dive. Take Corkbar in Los Angeles, for instance, whose owner, the appropriately named Caleb Wines, notes "It seemed like most of the 'wine bars' here were just glorified restaurants or really esoteric and intimidating, where if you didn't know the latest Eastern European varietal you were made to feel like an idiot."

More casual and comfortable wine bars are great, and let's hope more of them continue to appear. But here's the thing: If you open up the wine list and request a "pea-NOT grigg-ee-O" (instead of a pea-no gree-joe) you're going to sound, well, pretty stupid, no matter how lax the locale.

And it's not just the mispronunciation of names that can make you sound like you don't know what you're talking about - there's also the matter of understanding the basic terminology and knowing how to approach a wine list, or even what to do if you think you've been poured a defective glass.

To that end, we've put together this basic guide to help you imbibe without the risk of embarrassment.

 Good-to-Know Wine Terms
Terroir (tear-WAHr): French term to describe the general makeup of a vineyard - from soil and climate to the drainage and topography - that contributes to the character of the wine.

Varietal: Another word for grape variety; as an adjective, meaning made from a single variety.

Vintage: The year the wines grapes were grown and harvested.

Dry: Used to describe wines that are not sweet.

Tannic: Having an astringent character from compounds found in grape skins and/or wooden casks; primarily noticeable in red wines.

How to Approach the List
Extensive wine lists can be intimidating, there's no denying, but experienced sommelier Allegra Angelo of Michy in Miami has some advice to offer. For one, know what you like (not-so-oaky whites, bold reds, whatever). Second, and most important, don't be afraid to ask for help - if there's no sommelier, seek out the restaurant's "token wine dork" and find out what recommendations he or she may have. Lastly, says Angelo, "Don't be afraid to experiment."

How to Taste
Don't feel like you have to make a big spectacle of evaluating the first taste of the wine you've ordered. Give the sample a couple quick swirls, get a good whiff, and take your sip (no need to attempt the gargle you saw someone do at a wine tasting once).

How to Reject a Bad Wine
Don't let the fear of being "that annoying, picky customer" stop you from rejecting a wine if you think there's something wrong with it. You're paying for a product and you should be getting what you want. That said, there is the matter of accountability on your part - if you're going to reject a wine for being "bad," be sure of your convictions. It helps to be familiar with the characteristic red flags of "corked" or oxidized wine. Be polite, and have the sever taste the defective glass; any professional worth his or her salt will be honest about admitting a fault in the wine if there is one.

Chardonnay
This popular, adaptable white wine grape can be grown in just about every wine-producing country in the world. It is the grape behind the famed dry, white burgundies of France and one of the principal varietals in champagne. Typically, chardonnay is an oaked wine with medium-high acidity and a fuller body. It's flavors and aromas can range from toasty and vanilla (from the oak) to tropical fruits to slightly earthy.

Food Pairing: Fatty fishes (think salmon) and rich cream sauces have always been a classic pairing with chardonnay.

 Pinot Noir (pea-no nWAHr)
Iconic of Burgundy reds, great pinot noirs can also be found in wine-growing regions like Oregon, California, New Zealand. Lighter than cabernet sauvignon and merlot, pinot noir is generally a medium-acid, medium-tannin wine that has fruity red berry notes and a floral aroma (but can sometimes also have earthy qualities as well).

Food Pairing: A versatile wine for food pairing, try it with natural rinded cow's milk cheeses, mild red meats, as well as grilled, roasted, or sautéed foods (think grilled chicken with sautéed mushrooms).

Champagne and Sparkling Wines
Rule number one: Not all sparkling wine is champagne (shahm-PAHN-yeh). Nothing against Italy's popular prosecco (pro-SECK-oh) and Spain's cava (cah-vah) - or even the many great American sparklers - but unless it's made in Champagne, France, it can't be labeled as such.

When it comes to the French bubbly, a lot of confusion can stem from the terms used to define degree of sweetness. Brut (broot) means it's dry, sec (seck) - though literally "dry" - means it's a little sweet, demi-sec (duh-mee seck) is fairly sweet, and doux (do) means sweet.

Food Pairing: Bubbly is a classic pre-meal apéritif drink, but Covenant Wines' Jeff Morgan says the most important factor to consider when pairing sparkling wine and food is the presence or lack of acidity. Oysters are a popular match, but also salty or fried snacks (chips, fried chicken!) work well too, as the bubbles can cut through the richness.
