Article on how to get rid of bad eating habits

Bad eating habits are hard to break. These habits are a result of our disorganised lifestyle.

Ignorance, especially in this case, is certainly not bliss. Unhealthy eating habits contribute to obesity and laziness. If you happen to be a midnight snacker, then pay due attention and read on:

Big Fat Indian Dinner
This is the most common urban lifestyle habit. Travelling long distances to offices or working until late hours are the major reasons behind it. Once you reach home from work, you are so physically and mentally drained that all you want to do is sleep. Thus, dinner has become an obligation. This is the worst thing that you can do to your body. Indian meals are rich in carbohydrates and the body does not burn them if you go off to sleep right after the meals. This habit also reduces your body’s ability to assimilate resulting in weight gain and obesity.

Solution: If dining late, eat lean proteins and vegetables for dinner. Such a meal has low calories and high nutrients. Never skip your meals. Avoid eating too late and if you do control your urge to sleep right away.

Surprising Health Facts

Sugar is as bad for you as cigarettes: Although sugar does not have the same stigma attached to it as smoking, the truth is indulging on sweet treats or dessert could be as bad for you as lighting up a cigarette. According to research by a University of California team, sugar is as damaging as both alcohol and cigarettes and, according to the researchers, should therefore be regulated to control consumption.

Damaging juice
We are all guilty of not eating enough fruits so we resort to drinking canned juices filled with preservatives. We assume that they are healthy and have all the nutrients that an actual fruit itself has. Sadly enough, the stark truth is that it contains SUGAR, and lot of it! It does no good to your body, leads to diabetes and other ailments.

Solution: Eat a fruit rather than resorting to these shortcuts. Not only does it taste better but is filled with actual vitamins and proteins. Apart from that eating fruits will also increase your fibre intake this will improve your digestion many folds.

Snack attack
‘When hungry eat food and not junk’ says every mother when her kids ask her for a bag of potato chips. This junk food contains salts that affect the blood pressure. So if you keep replacing your meals with a bag of chips then be warned your heart is heating with extra cholesterol.

Solution: Buy a small pack if you are busy. Eating chips is like an addiction; once you start eating you somehow find it difficult to stop nibbling. Carry a handful of dry fruits like almonds instead. Also, make sure you eat five small meals daily.

Drinking on an empty stomach:
Alcohol is extremely high on calories. Worse is when you drink on an empty stomach, because these calories are deposited into your blood as fat. This increases the level of insulin in blood. As a result, one tends to over eat. This leads to reduction of glucose in blood that makes you hungry. In addition, until alcohol is completely flushed from your system the glucose level does not increase.

Solution: Hold your drink! Keep munching on finger food as it prevents alcohol from getting absorbed in blood. If you have nothing to eat, drink milk, this will slow down the absorption by up to three times. Eating between your drinks also reduces the calorie intake by making you drink less and eat more. So next time when you want to enjoy your whiskey, have it on the rocks and keep a starter by the side.

Ill eating habits develop right from college and once you enter the corporate environment, it becomes a pile on. Eating between the meals and grabbing a quick bite, feels convenient right now but this comfort wouldn’t last long. These bad eating habits of yours will make your heart weak, reduce your immune system and even make you lethargic.
